Make Ordinary Days Extraordinary

joyful living group 2016

"This is a (re)TREAT for yourself. So worth it!” Eugenia, Greece

Do you want to:

    • Live with joy and ease?
    • Improve your work-life balance?
    • Cultivate mindfulness and gratitude?
    • Enhance your health and wellbeing?
    • Find peace in a hectic lifestyle?

Join life coach, movement therapist and long term yoga practitioner Julie and Iyengar yoga teacher Eugenia for a 7-day Conscious Living Yoga Experience on Crete, the inspiring and heart-opening Mediterranean island paradise.

During a yoga retreat we can gain deep personal insight through yoga postures (asanas) and breathwork (pranayama). We can experience an opening of the heart as well as balance, grace, ease, fulfilment. How do we take these experiences 'off the mat' and bring well-being into our every day lives? How do we sustain the practices which have given us so much aliveness after a retreat has ended?

The Conscious Living Yoga Retreat is designed to anchor your days in the things that matter to you and bring joy into your life. The retreat’s five themes - Waking Up, Morning Ritual, Eating Joyfully, Flow, Unwinding - give you a recipe for how to live in alignment with yoga philosphy. During the retreat you will have a chance to put these themes in practice straight away so you experience the benefits of Conscious Living first hand.

Eight years ago Julie used to have a busy corporate job in London. Once she learned to live her days mindfully, she noticed how she became much more relaxed and joyful. Instead of feeling stressed, she was feeling grateful for living effortlessly and in flow. Julie created the Conscious Living Yoga Retreat to assist YogaOnCrete guests in cultivating mindfulness and gratitude.

After spending six years living & working in Auroville, a conscious community in South India, she now is happily settled on Crete where she collaborates with her dear friend Eugenia, yoga teacher and owner of YogaOnCrete, who will host the morning yoga sessions during the retreat.

Treat yourself to a break from every day life and learn how to flow with joy and ease. Come back feeling transformed, reborn, empowered and committed to a healthy and balanced lifestyle tailored to your rhythm and needs. Rekindle that deep connection with your inner being, and with fellow participants who will quickly become close friends.

“The retreat was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm incredibly glad I signed up for it. I am a stronger, happier, more positive person now that I learned so much about myself and life. Thank you!” Mouna, France

This powerful retreat will give you:

    • A renewed sense of energy and joy in life
    • A personalised morning yoga & meditation practise
    • A fresh perspective on your nutrition
    • A deeper connection to your intuition
    • A commitment to design your life according to what opens your heart
    • A chance to soak up the magical Mediterranean

‘’I loved the retreat! I feel reborn and I have experienced a radical shift of perspective. I am going along my days with mindfulness and the results are astonishing. My friends are amazed’’ Katarina, Germany

The week begins with a welcome activity and then delicious vegan welcome dinner on Saturday evening at 19:00.

From Sunday to Friday, you will start the day with meditation and yoga session to open your heart and body. Then it's time for a refreshing detox smoothie before you start the first interactive workshop on the Conscious Living theme of the day.

After lunch, there's the opportunity to relax, enjoy the beach and sunshine, get a massage, explore the village, take a walk in the countryside.

The evening workshop is dedicated to creating commitments and a personal roadmap for the Conscious Living theme of the day.

All sessions are held on the yoga deck under the olive trees so you can enjoy your connection with the sea, the trees, and the hills

Julie facilitates the workshops using life coaching & movement therapy techniques to create insights and help you find your own answers, as well as get you committed to putting them into practice.

Six vegan breakfasts (smoothies) and 5 lunches are offered at the house, while in the evenings guests can dine out in the village restaurants (not included in the course cost; approx. €15 for a full meal including drinks). The welcome dinner on Saturday July 11th and brunch on Saturday July 18th, before guests leave, are both also included in the price. Individual excursions (e.g., hikes, boat trips) can be arranged during the week at an extra cost.

The number of guests is limited to 10 to create a warm and friendly atmosphere and to ensure that everyone gets a personalised experience.

“The retreat was one of the most exciting and life-changing holidays I’ve ever taken. Surrounded by lovely people in an amazing natural environment of flowers and olive trees, I experienced how to live more joyfully in daily life and give a smile to the world.” Franziska, Germany

The retreats five themes are designed to anchor your days in the things that matter to you and bring joy into your life. Together, these themes give you a recipe for how to live consciously. Morning yoga sessions

In order to support the retreat’s focus on how to live consciously and in line with one’s values, the morning meditation and yoga sessions will aim at invigorating and opening the body, relaxing and centring the mind, and creating a sense of spaciousness and calmness, from which the participant can dive into their truth and get the most out of the day’s workshops.

The classes will be a mix of Iyengar yoga and Hatha Flow, focusing on precision, alignment and the cultivation of awareness, the prerequisites of a safe practice. The foundations for a basic series of asanas (postures), breathing techniques and meditation will be explored and systematically organized in a way that can later be adopted in one’s everyday life. There will also be space for a deep listening of what the body needs in the moment and thus making one’s own choices in the practice in a playful and creative way, preparing the ground for self-practice, that is how and what to practice without the presence of a teacher. Each class will end with a deep relaxation and centring and grounding meditation.

Yoga is a system that beautifully fine-tunes awareness of body and mind and cultivates the ability to skilfully respond to life’s challenges; the correct understanding and practice of postures becomes a tool for deepening one’s awareness of body, breath and mind, and brings about physical and mental harmony. In these sessions Eugenia wishes to instil the confidence in each participant to trust the wisdom of one’s body, learn to listen to its rhythms and signals, and thus adjust the practice as is most useful and create a base from which each day’s ordinary extraordinariness can unfold, well after the retreat ends.

"The retreat group feels like a family tribe...after many retreats across the world, I said to myself no more retreats but Julie is different, she is unique, she is real, you can trust her. With her powerful tools you will discover yourself and believe in yourself more than ever!" Ariana, Spain

    More about life coaching

Coaching enables you to create real and positive change by dramatically increasing your levels of self-confidence and awareness.
A life coach facilitates your journey of finding answers to your questions. The answers already lie within you and point you to how to realise your full potential. The life coaching method is built on the cornerstone that we are all naturally creative, resourceful and whole and that we all possess the capacity for knowing what is best for ourselves.

In a coaching session, the coach creates for the client a safe place of authentic being, powerful listening and encouragement, to uncover the best in oneself and others. This way, the coach and client together create insights and commitment to action so that the client’s life is optimised.

“"A most refreshing and inspiring experience to be reminded of the things that make me feel truly joyful and empowered. There were times when my usual negative mental/emotional patterns emerged, and it was extremely helpful to have the tools there and then at hand to work with these patterns with awareness and love :-)”
"Julie taught me to acknowledge my values in my decision making which has made such a difference to my life. She is a joy to work with and I would recommend her to anyone.”
“Julie helped me a lot to accept myself the way I am right now. She has such a good energy and a very gentle and good soul. Her wisdom has a special grace that has an immediate effect when she speaks.”

eugenia-sivitouEugenia initially studied Psychology in Athens and went on to receive an MSc in Sport Psychology in Wales. She then began practicing yoga in 2004, while studying Contemporary Dance in Scotland. She gained a Yoga Teacher qualification from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres in Spain in 2005 and in 2012 received her Iyengar yoga teaching certification, with Constantinos Giannetakis as her regular teacher.

Whenever possible, she loves continuing her training also with other teachers such as Donna Farhi, Angela Farmer and Martine Le Chenic, and has in recent years become more interested in tailoring a practice in tune with a woman's needs and hormonal cycle. She is currently living between Rhodes and Crete with her husband Nicolas.

Her classes strive to create a safe and nurturing environment. The focus on the breath, as a powerful tool for developing awareness of the body and quieting the mind, is integral in her teaching, also incorporating elements of her Vipassana meditation practice.

Ultimately, her interest lies in integrating an analytical/psychological approach, emotional expression through movement and voice, and the development of awareness and connection with our spiritual essence through yoga and meditation, in light of a holistic approach to well being.
